Types of Opt-Outs for Reduce My Digital Footprint & Unsubscribe Tools

Updated over 8 months ago

PrivacyHawk’s tools offer different types of opt-out requests to protect your privacy and reduce unwanted communications. Here’s a detailed guide on each type:

Reduce My Digital Footprint Tool: Opt-Out Options

In the Reduce My Digital Footprint tool, you’ll find two types of opt-out requests that help manage how your data is used and shared by companies:

  • This request is used when you want a company to completely delete your personal information from their databases. It’s ideal for companies you no longer wish to interact with, such as data brokers or businesses you are no longer a customer of.

Why Choose Delete?: This is the most secure option to protect your privacy, as it removes your data entirely, ensuring that the company no longer has any access to your information.

  • This request is used when you want a company to stop selling your personal information to third parties. It’s especially useful if you are still a customer of the company and want to prevent your data from being sold, without severing ties with the company.

Why Choose Do Not Sell?: This option protects your data from being spread to other parties, reducing its exposure, while allowing you to maintain your relationship with the company.

Note: You can choose to send either a Delete or Do Not Sell request, depending on your relationship with the company and your desired privacy level.

Unsubscribe Tool: Opt-Out from Unwanted Communications

The Unsubscribe Tool is designed to help you stop receiving unwanted emails and promotional materials. It offers one main type of opt-out:

  • This request asks the company to stop sending you promotional emails or direct mail. It’s ideal for reducing unwanted marketing messages in your inbox or mailbox, keeping your communications clutter-free.

Why Use Unsubscribe?: It helps reduce email and postal spam, which can often lead to additional data collection and exposure.

Using Multiple Opt-Outs

In many cases, you can use both a Do Not Sell and Unsubscribe request for the same company, especially if you want to limit their control over your data and reduce marketing communications. Alternatively, you may choose only one, depending on your preferences and relationship with the company.

Why Opt-Outs Matter

Opting out of data-sharing, selling, or promotional communication helps minimize your digital footprint, reduces exposure to third-party advertisers, and gives you more control over your personal data. Whether you’re a former customer looking to sever ties or a current customer who wants to maintain privacy, PrivacyHawk’s Reduce My Digital Footprint and Unsubscribe tools give you flexible options to protect your data.
